We recently received an email at OpenSpace from our neighbours at Hulme Garden Centre letting us know about their latest events. For over 5 years the garden centre has been quietly brightening this corner of Manchester on Old Birley Street opposite Kim By the Sea cafe. Far from your ordinary garden centre selling gnomes and pesticides, this garden centre is all about selling quality, affordable plants, seeds and equipment.
But it's the involvement of the local community that makes this place different. There's regular events such as potato day and apple day, workshops to get kids involved and courses from the likes of LILI (Low Impact Living Initiative) on everything from lime rendering to compost toilets.
If you're in the area I recommend you drop by, take a look at the willow arches and fabulous new green roof and find a spot in the sensory garden for a bit of lunch.
